 Serious auto-dimming issues. January 9, 2009
I got this TV a last week. I have already updated the software on my TV. When watching content that alternates between light and dark scenes, the auto dimming creates an experience that is frustrating to watch; switching on and off. This makes calibrating this TV impossible. There are no current options to turn this so called "feature" off. I understand the purpose of this feature to to increase the dynamic contrast ratio of the TV, but when the TV is displaying a dark scene with sparse light the auto dimming on the TV engages and makes the image difficult to see. It does so in a manner not consistent with the intended viewing of almost all video content displayed on the devise. This must be resolved. This is not an isolated occurrence. I have been in contact with dozens of people that have this TV and it happens on all of them, and it is a major concern to all of them. There are numerous devises that directly compete with this one and offer a more competitive price point at that.

I ordered on 1/5/09. Set was delivered today 1/9/09. So excellent before time delivery.. it was supposed to be arriving next week.
The delivery service itself was not upto expectations.
Amazon Contracted Pilot Freight, who sub-contracted to William B Meyer.
It was scheduled for Friday between 1 and 5, then rescheduled to Friday between 8 and 12. Which is fine, the earlier the better. They did call one hour before to confirm. Came in by 8:30. So far so good. But it was not 'White Glove' delivery by any stretch of imagination. They got the box in, opened the top, said they could not put it on the stand.How am I supposed to test it if it is not assembled and ready for viewing?? Then said they could not plug it in as it had been lying in the truck all night and the temp was below 30. So it was not advisable. But then the icing on the cake was when the delivery guy wanted me to initial on a page that said I did not want the box to be opened.
So now I have a half open box containing a TV lying at home. Still untested of course. I am just hoping that there was no damage in transit and I do not have to run around for repair/replacement.

This is one of the best TV ever!!! I had a new rear projection and they suck!!!! the bulb goes after so many hours!! I had the TV for 6 years and changed the bulb 3 times at $299.00 a bulb not a good buy.
We will see how this LCD does and I'll let you know in 6 years.
But at this point buy sony Great TV WHAT A PICTURE!!!!

I AM WELL PLEASED WITH THIS SONY PRODUCT...PICTURE QUALITY TERRIFIC AND THE OPTIONS ARE AS WELL......LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING A BLUE/RAY DVD TO GO WITH IT.....DOUG
